John,
I too laid out the curve on my Guillemot. Then, filled in the balance. After checking out some of the work of fellow builders, cutting out a curved strip works well too. On my deck, fitting all the pieces against the curved strips was a lot of work, but well worth it. IMHO.
On my next boat I will probably try cutting curves in after the deck is stripped. Have fun with it. Most of the fun for me is figuring things out.
