I bought just the Rockler table without stand and router (you get an aluminum plate that will fit your router with the purchase of the router table) and, as Bobby says, it works very well. I didn't need the table base or another router. Most of the router "tables" I've seen, i.e. craftsmen and B & D don't have enough surface to support your work and are just too light-weight. I attached my Rockler table to a table-saw base that came with my thickness planer.

You can make your own, too, as long as you can build it warp-free. A large piece of kitchen counter top could be used and it's pretty inexpensive. Just cut-off the rolled edge and splashboard. I'd also double the thickness if you're going to use melamine-covered particle board, route a recess for the router. The Rockler table is an inch thick.
