Patsy,
I see three, basic options I'd try.
1) put the glass on first, and tape second.
2) If you are glassing over the seam, maybe you do not need the tape (?) as the glass effectively replaces the tape.
3) If you are set on tape first, glass second, the once the first coat of epoxy on the tape is dry to the touch, but still soft to a finger nail edge, Use a scraper to bevel the edge to a smooth transition.
A paint scraper will work, if you round the blade a bit with a file. Others use cabinent scrapers. Any thing with a sharp edge, but a round contour should work. (an old knife, but be careful)
Sand paper would not be good, as it will likely get sand in the epoxy.
