: I've wondered for awhile if using a Yakima track, or, better, a Seal Line
: track for the Nick/Eric footbrace wouldn't be a good idea. Very strong,
: proven designs, and you get enough for two boats when you buy a pair. I'm
: leaning toward the Seal Line since it has the simple fore and aft adjuster
: built in. If I built a wooden track I'd be tempted to go with ash, but I'd
: use a simple hauling tackle and cam cleat instead of the elaborate
: notch-and-rope business, which strikes me as a bit tough to build while
: not producing superior functionality.
Scott,
The notch and rope set up isn't too hard to make but you might have better results with your idea.
The problem I find ,is this. The foot rest needs to be far enough forward to let your legs into the boat, Get comfy in the seat then pull the footbrace towards you to get pressure on the brace and your knees on the side of the boat. Thats hard to do because you need to pull the rope past the notch ( the hook) then the rope slides into the groove. Your legs are in the way so you can't get a snug fit .
It's hard to explain but I think a ratchet of sorts would be an improvement.
Any way, if you make one that you like to use I 'd like to hear about it.
Terry
