: Hello,
: I am currently building a Night Heron with the standard deck. The stripping
: on the deck takes a very severe twist around the cockpit as it transitions
: from the front to the rather flat stern deck. I have needed to use screws
: at this point to keep the strips in place, even then with difficulty. This
: appears to be the way it was designed. Does anyone see any potential
: problems that may arise later when the recess is cut or the staples(and
: screws) removed? If so, what can be done to avert the problems? Thanks
: Mike

Mike,

I'm building an Outer Island. It also has severe bends from the front of the cockpit to the rear deck. Once the stripping was completed and the staples pulled for sanding, the deck retained its shape. After sanding a section, I used strapping tape to hold it down to the forms to minimize any distortion. I glassed a day or two later. I didn't cut out the cockpit until the deck was glassed. You can find some pictures on my webpage by following the boatbuilding link to Outer Island deck stripping.
