I'd spend the effort making neat fillets, let cure to green stage, lay cockpit glass to center of fillet, then lay tape. I've never done it this way but I've always wanted to. Putting cloth over unfeathered tape guarantees bubbles at the edges that water/dirt will enter like dirty fingernails. Spending the time to scrape the tape edge isn't hard but putting the cloth down first sounds easier. oh, if you have wood bulkheads you might want to extend the cockpit cloth back 6" and forward 3" just for kicks.
