I had the same problem with the severe twisting that occurs around the cockpit area. I built the low deck version stapleless. I used straping tape to hold the strips and some creative clamping. After removing the tape I had very little if any pull away. After cuting out the recess alot of the stress in the wood disappeared. I left the boat between each step for at least a week or two, because of work, kids etc. No separating or pull apart occured. Just go do it, let the glue setup and everything should go fine.
