I used some 3 and 5mm luan for a kayak. The 3mm compared favorably, the 5mm was marginal. So I overbuilt the hull and now have a heavier boat than planned. IMO, you could either strip the deck or continue with okoume for the deck. Glad to hear the scarf held!
