if you have enough oak to retry or if the oakpanels are still slightly oversize, what about presealing the oak surface, filling any voids by checking w/ a light and syringing in epoxy, and then glassing the back (with very lt cloth say 4oz or less)while it it still a sheet or oversize panel.

the idea is, presumably you would have much more stable and uniform panel, more able to be planed and less likely to fall apart (especially edge splintering, and less able for the thin face to be damaged/stained . And the curves likely are gentle enough to allow to happen as glass is thin and only on one side. even if some buckling or crazing occurs at a sharp bend at the cockpit(i forget the curves here), you could refinish or refurbish or refill or reglass after stitching as it is the most accessible interior location.
