I'd like to do it in
: cedar strip and lightly glass it. Framing on the inside would supply most

Since the hull is mainly for aerodynamics and need not be totally waterproof, and I assume weight is a concern, why not build the enclosure with thin wood strips.... between an eighth and 3/16 thick, glued with waterproof glue, sanded and just varnished? If you want a very nice surface, then some super light fiberglass (less than one oz - Raka has some) and a coat of epoxy would make a super fine surface.
Or if this is just for aerodynamics, make a plug mold with wood strips and use it for a pure fiberglass and epoxy product.
