Hi Chris,
I think that your #4 solution has my vote. In fact, I may try some variation on the strip/S&G deck hybrid hybrid. What about taking it one step further and extend some of the outside strips into the maple ply in an artistic fashion. This method will speed up the deck stripping by laying on large ply panels, but still enable you to cut into and add a personal touch with narrow strip pin-striping and surround the outer deck with beautiful woods. No need for bead/cove edges, just cut the strips the same thickness as the maple ply.
When I cut the forms for my Cirrus, I'm not going to follow Vaclav's deck panel shape. In fact, the forms will be just for the hull. The hull will get completely finished, then move onto the deck. I'll laminate a bunch of deckbeams using 16" radius fore and 22" radius aft of the coaming and will be stripping onto these permanent deckbeams (Bill Price's "Deck Frame" concept). But for me to think of using some specialty plywood cut into my own shapes on the deck, has spurred my interest and imagination. Thanks.
