Thanks Ron , Mike and Rick ... just trying to keep the clutter down with one post

I HAVE Nick's book. Sorry I should have looked there first. I was also briefly shown the lofting process by a great guy from the Minnesota Canoe Association years ago (Bob Brown). That was probably 15 years ago and I can't remember squat! Don't expect any progress for anything very soon. I'm building a Guillemot Expedition right now (well ... still doing the prep work). That comes first. The ice boat shell is for next season. I'll be sure to post my progress on the cedar strip iceboat shell. Perhaps I should check out some cad software to ease the burden. I don't think the Kayakfoundery is going to work for this.

As for Mike and Rick, I'm not really interested in doing a plug. That sounds like too much work. I thought of the foam/glass trick. That would certainly be the fastest, but pretty imprecise. I have a little exprience with foam and fiberglass. As for just painting the strips, it HAS to be glassed. Contrary to what you may think, things get pretty wet in the spring when the ice is soft. Ice chips are almost like being sand blasted.

Thanks again! When it's too cold to work in the garage on my kayak, I can start lofting the shell for the ice boat. I'll keep you posted of my progress ... when there is progress. :-)
