Strip: WRC or is it redwood?

I,m trying to determine if I'm using western red cedar or redwood. I bought some very dark boards for contrast, that were sold as WRC, but I'm not so sure. Redwood is nonexistant for sale in this area.
How do I tell if its redwood or WRC. The wood seams more brittle, harder and smells different when milled than the lighter WRC I am using. The grain is very tight and hard to see. Is it WRC heartwood or redwood? Any ideas how to tell? It does not really matter, just like to know for sure.
