I'm sure which ever option you choose will look fantastic. The strips, however, offer you the freedom to add color contrasting woods out to the edge of the deck. And in my opinion, would look classy. If you're not sure about the redwood, try a thin strip of pine or another light colored wood and throw it in the mix. See what happens when you dry fit other options (there are many) and if you haven't already, wet the surface with a damp rag to see what it will really look like.

Nice web site Chris. Thanks for the instant pictures and the update. I'm looking forward to getting to the stage you're at. I still believe the strip deck is the way to go, with or without plywood, cut either to the plan panels or custom shapes, surrounded by strips. Lots of options. Only drawback I see to the strips is that it will take more time to construct, but not much more. I think it's worth it. I should add that I also believe that the full maple deck would look great as well, wouldn't want to start a marital battle over issue's like this.
