My opinion,
Post the picture, get some opinions on saving the kayak. I think it will not be hard based on your discription.
If you take a break and have the chance to try other kayak models, and find you have one that better suits your needs then you should start over. I would not recommend starting over if you feel you can fix the current one, and it is the model that you want.
