The first event, in 1999, was referred to simply as the "West Coast Wooden Kayak Rendezvous".

The next year, it was initially called "Rendezvous 2000", but with all of the Y2K stuff floating around, it quickly became known as "R2K". Now we 'tack on' the numeral of this year...hence Rendezvous 2003 = "R2K3"

If there weren't such a large core group of computer nerds/kayak builders, I doubt the name ever would have caught on! :)
