Sounds like either redwood or one of the other cedar spp. I'd guess the possibilities are:
1. redwood, Sequoia sempervirens, heartwood (not sapwood) from a mature tree. If it is this, it'll be relatively light in weight, stiffer then the WRC you're used to, and somewhat harder then cedar.
2. Eastern red cedar, Juniperus virginiana, looks like redowwd but generally has a pile of knots...or should I say knots with a little straight grain
3. Western red cedar, Thuja plicata, but grown in a different locale? Maybe older or plantation grown?

I'm guessing it's WRC myself...is there a prize if I'm right? If so, could you send a case of Tusker Ale to my home? Please make it soon, too, I'm planning on getting under the 4Runner and replacing steel fasteners for stainless steel, then doing the same for the Prerunner.
