Happenstance took me to a lumberyard, looking for paddle wood. The pine was tounge and groove wall panels, 1x8, varyng from 8' to 16' long. The only handling was to resaw it into strip and get out all the knots. I only got about 60% useable wood out of it, but it was cheap. I believe it's white pine. Around here, probably Ponderosa.

There is one spot I couldnt sand out, I must have spilled some white glue onto the surface. And pine looks better if you scrape it off before epoxying; I sanded it to 220 but it still shines pretty good.

I'm a little fatalistic aboput perfection I'm afraid. You see, the first thing I intend to do eith the boat is take it out and scratch it up. So little flaws dont bother me like they might some others. I'm after the overall affect, and a boat I'm not afraid to use.
