I'd agree with you 100% here, Ken.

I think most wooden kayaks of a normal layup are so stiff that stress risers are a very tiny risk. Besides, wood is also very resilient to the affects of big blows.

When your wood gets thinner, and glass gets lighter, the hull gets more flexible, and can flex enough for stress risers to become an actual problem.
