: In Skagway, AK, in the tourist trap shops, an 18" SOF baidarka model has
: a $700+ price tag. As low as $300 for a 12" model. I don't know how
: many they actually sell, though.
In a photo marketing class I took, the teacher said, "Charge what the market demands". For instance, I can take school portaits for $15 a package or an advertising portrait for $1500. If I can regularly sell the $1500 portrait then I've correctly addressed my market. If no one knocks on my door then either I'm overpriced or am addressing the wrong market. If I'm beating off customers with a stick and have an 18 month waiting list, then I'm probably unferpriced, but have found a strong market.
So, depending on a whole lot of variables, you may only be able to charge $25 or maybe it's $850. Research it, price it and see what happens. Then adjust future sales accordingly.
Another thought. If you want to sell at tourist traps, See if you can sell on consignment. I find that to be a win-win for both the artist/craftsman and the store owner.
