: If you are trying to make the lightest boat possible, you may chose to leave
: out the interior glass. The boat will be quite strong and it probably
: won't break as long as you never hit any thing. But glass on the inside
: will add a lot of strength, plus it will assure the plywood is more
: protected from the abuse of getting wet and drying out. A coat of epoxy
: will eventually crack if it doesn't have any glass to hold it together. If
: water starts to get into the wood, it will check and crack more.
: Deterioration may be slow, but it will be much faster than if you glassed
: the inside completely.

On my next boat, I am considering putting a light glass on the inside of the pieces and under the deck before I stitch it together. Then stitching, putting in fillets and tape wide enough to overlap the glass on the inside side pieces and bottom. I am assuming the overlap will have similar strength as one piece but be easier to do.

Outside glass will be the usual continuous single pieces with reinforcement on wear areas.

Has anyone done this? Is my thinking sound?
