Strip: Cockpit resizing

I want to increase the length of the cockpit on the RBA I'm building. The plans opening is 30x17 and I would like to make it 31.5x17. I tried cutting the paper half template and moving it 1.5" forward but that does not work. Is there a easy way to increase the length of the original cockpit without losing it's design shape?
