: While I'm here, can anyone tell me how to pronounce Guillemot?

I brought this up myself a couple of years ago, and probably wasn't the first. It seems to come up every six months or so. Nick and other English speakers pronounce the name of the bird and the kayak company, Gill-uh-mut.

As a partially bilingual Canadian, I pronounced it the French way until I had my question answered. The name of the bird is the same in French, and I will defer to my learned friend Eric on that pronunciation, mais on ne parle pas francais ici, hein?
