Thanks for the suggestions; I felt something like this was possible but I wasn't sure about the strength. Having carved the tail piece on the boat, I suppose I can do it again.
Rob,the Shooting Star has been a great paddling boat. Mine ended up weighing 43lbs. and having previously paddled the plastic Necky LookshaIV @ 65lbs., I didn't appreciate how much difference the lighter weight makes. Thanks again for your help.
