What was that PBS series several years back about the history of language. They went into these isolated communities to study how dialects were formed, etc. It was facinating (to me anyway). It turns out that localization/the misuse of words is one of the strongest driving forces behind language evolution. So, the answer is, (mis)pronounce it anyway you want. I pronounce it gil-mot or gi-la-mot and I don't mind waiting for the rest of the world to start saying it my way :D
