Yep, Scary-Sharp works. My only trip to the ER since starting the kayak was after a freshly sharpened chisel sliced into my palm. About 1/4" deep by 2" long, it took 6 stitches to close (if I remember right). I could see that I was cut, and there was blood all over the floor (thankfully, none on the cedar), but I never felt a thing. My first thought was "Holy ****, is that ever sharp".
BTW, the accident was a result of my being stupid about my free hand position, in relation to the position of the chisel. A momentary lapse of reason. Two inches to the left, and it would have sliced crossed my wrist. Nuff said. I won't make that mistake again.
But man, that chisel was sharp.
: I use this method, the "Scary-Sharp" method, and I use 220, 320,
: 400, 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200, 1,500 and 2,000 grits in the silicone-carbide
: ( wet/dry ) paper on a piece of 3/8" thick plate glass about 16"
: x 20". I have a cheap guide to keep my angles and work the blades
: about 15 seconds on each grit ( wet ) and it always comes out like a
: mirror and sharp enough to shave with. Done it with a block plane blade.
