One Scary Sharp caveat

The one problem I've encountered is that typical wet/dry paper doesn't cut the really hard steels - such as A2 - very quickly. You'll get there eventually, but diamond hones and stones seem to be faster. Since I'd rather spend my time planing than sharpening, I opted for the more expensive hones & stones route.

With either system, once you have a good edge, you should only need to use the finest grit to re-hone it.
