I've been using the DS method with the Veritas honing jig and angle guide below. It works well, but you need to be careful making sure the blade is square in the jig. It also is tricky doing small finger plane blades in the jig.

As for the DS method, I've found that I can spray the back of the wet-dry sand paper with water and get enough adhesion to the glass that I don't need the contact cement. I usually start at 400 grit and move through 800, 1000, 1500, and finally 2000. This method is very quick, good and easy!
