I built one in about 80 hours. I was building from recycled lumber and did not worry too much about bevelling strips to fit or how many staples or screws I used or where they went. Filled any gaps with some epoxy/saw dust mix when I precoated the hull, wiping it down with a squeegee as I went. Considering the strips were already full nail holes, etc, it's not bad, kind of a faux distressed look. I've made better looking canoes since which took considerably longer, 120-140 hrs maybe.
: I saw a message posted somewhere from a guy who said he built a red cedar
: strip canoe in 80 hours, including the time to build the strongbacks. Is
: that possible? I see people talking about anywhere from 250 to 500 hours
: for many of the kayaks I see here.
