I'm always up for a wild guess The clue is in the repeated pattern. I think the builder made-up a bunch of dark/light stripe pieces; some in long lengths and some in blocks... He/she stripped the deck using the long lengths and then used the block pieces to carefully build-up the coaming pattern. I'm guessing the coaming wasn't very rounded at this stage - more step shaped. A layer of Saran wrap protected the boat while the blocks were glued together. Then the coaming was removed from the boat and shaped with an angle grinder and a belt sander.

I could be totally wrong too. Where was this boat - at the Newfound Rendezvous?
