Other: Help please big mistake

I am a high school wood shop teacher and I have had several students build stitch and epoxy kayaks. Today we have noticed that when attaching a sheer clamp a student made two left sides. The only Idea we have come up with so far is to put an inside and outside sheer clamp on each side and treat the extra as a rub rail.Is this even possible? Is there a better fix out there?
