: you might also be able to make this by glueing rectangular blocks into an
: exact fitting oval, then use a routing or shapeing table to carve out the
: rest. The more I use a router, the more i realize how fast it can create
: large mistakes.
: I am also interested in how the seat was made, that is sooo very pretty.
: I can see two possible means of making one like thsi. first step in both is
: to create/find a seat that you like that fits into the boat (e.g. minicell
: foam)
: in the first method, you sacrifice the seat by sending it through a saw till
: you get 1/4 inch strips of seat, then you use these strips to create a
: matching part in wood. Glue, sand and polish
: the second is to create an offset pattern using the ringnail/pegboard method
: to transfer the depths to a blank, and carving away
: Or third I suppose is just to start carving away and eyeball it. Ive got some
: knee hooks that I did that way and they came out pretty good
: anyone else with some good ideas?
Dale Frolander in Everett did a beautiful job with a stripped-to-match coaming (3 of them!) on his Guillemot Triple.
His website isn't on the Internet anymore, but he still lurks here.
