: Of the lighter weight fabrics from Dyson the 9 oz ( actually 8.8 oz ) is
: polyester and of a slightly looser weave than the 8 oz nylon. The nylon
: feels a bit thicker/harder/tougher likely a function of how the weave
: accepts the coating and of course the individual coating has a bearing on
: the "feel" of the coated skin.

Yeh, I got a sample kit of their cloths and they are very close. The 8oz. nylon was mentioned to have some small flaws in it. Since the kids boats are mainly practice boats and will sustain much less damage ( due to carrying lesser weights... 50 to 70lbs max. )I feel safe that the lightweight cloth will suffice. And the minor flaws in the weave won't be an issue. I do want the poly. 9oz. for my boat. If need be, I don't mind going to the 12oz. cloth. I'm not concerned too much about an extra lb. or two.
I'm not so sure that it will look any different once the finish coatings are added. I've build the Walrus with Canvas and house paint and it looks good with 3 coats on it.
It's All Good!!! :)
