Kurt, I have not built with Luann so temper my $.02 accordingly but have paddled a boat with it and used other grades of okoume, the primary reason CLC is insistant on not using Luann is that the construction methods starting with the Yare were marginally successful using BS1088 Okoume because the excellent flexibility characteristics of Okoume made the hull bending possible in the two panel hulls and one piece deck. As the decks became more curved (tighter radius)the need for a consistantly flexible plywood was still necessary albeit less stressed than the Yare/severns. Given that the bottom panel of the MC13 is 6mm/1/4" I don't see a problem. There's a fair amount of trimming of the side panels to the bottom panel so don't get worried if you've got 1/2"-1" to trim off. It's a nice rec. kayak. Don't bother making the seats, they were primarily a means to use cast off production pieces.
