Could try drilling the hole larger, running a dowel or a plug in it and drilling that out so it becomes a feature. If you predrill the plug, you will not have to worry about tear out in it. Drill your hole for the plug larger from both sides so you don't get more tear out than you already have.
good luck

While drilling, the edge of the head bit
: into the side of the kayak once one side was through, and twisted pretty
: hard. It ripped into the side of the kayak.... I've filled it with wood
: flour thickened epoxy, but it still looks ugly, ugly.
: If I had done an end pour, things would have gone smoother, as it would have
: not resulted in a sudden twist. However part of the reason I did the
: painters ring now, is that I will not be doing my end pour until next
: spring, when it is warm enough out side.
: The choice of a different style of drill bit would also have prevented much
: grief. I was just not thinking when I bought the bit, and of course I
: drilled out both ends cause I was to impatient and stubborn to go buy a
: new bit. (impatientce is my normal on-going mistake)
: have a good day,
