You're renting a table saw? Just something to think about... for the price of renting a few times, you can get plans for and build a homemade table saw that uses a handheld 7-1/4" circular saw mounted underneath. BUT DON'T SKIP OUT ON THE SAFETY FEATURES! BUILD AND USE THEM!
Granted, it's not quite the same, not as powerful, etc, but for boat building, it will do the job, won't cost much, and it will be YOURS!
Other than that, I have to agree with the general trend of the responses. I'll add that you can build some really nice router tables for minor dollars, and if you buy a router, get as much router as you can afford. Get one with decent power, 1/4 and 1/2 inch quick change collets, and one that can be mounted on a table and (even if it takes a quick body change) plunged. You won't necessarily need the plunging for boat building, but if you get into any other wood projects, you may end up very, very glad you have it.
Oh, and it would be nice to have two collets of the same size (probably 1/2" to fit your B&C bits) so that you can set the depth on each bit, leave them in the collet, and just switch out collets when you need to use one or the other. I don't have that luxury, but I've been wishing for it.
Good luck.
Rick
