I found the 1/4" Luan very difficult to bend, also the majority of the thickness was in the pithy core (middle ply). The 1/8 bends much better, and all of the plys are very close in thickness. Check for voids by shining a bright light against the panel, the light will show through at the voids.

Mike (who has built one kayak with okkume and two with luan, plus two sof's and a stripper under way, and a luan cradle boat and a strip cradle boat)

: I don't have a problem with Laun, but I would go with the 5mm (1/4")
: instead of the 1/8". I cam currently building a Cirrus out of Laun
: and the wood from Home Depot was good looking and no voids. Cost was $9.xx
: per sheet 4'x8'. Be careful when you pick out your wood and and you will
: be fine. Make strong joints and glass inside and out for sure.
