the simplest idea is to dry the heck out of it for some days at elevated heat to see if the wood will shrink while the tube is expanded. cross fingers.

i'm sure pulp mills use lignin destroyers to break down wood into pulp, but i think that pressure and high heat are major parts of the process, but some other chemicals may work.

the other idea is to get some of that stump rot that you put on big stumps and come back a few mos later and dig up. depends on your time frame.

as you know the inside diameter, it should be fairly straight forward (i do not mean quick)to make slip collar for a large drill bit(spade? so lots of space to drop the shavings?) so no tube cutting happens and then attach to the drill, come back later.
