In Response To: Strip: routing bead and coves - centering (Gordon Snapp)

Hi Gordon, I had a problem adjusting a (borrowed) router. I would get the cutter where I wanted it, tighten, then when I tested it on a scrap, the cutter would be in the wrong place again. I think I did this for about two hours before giving up. I ended up building this little router table to fix the problem. Those screws go right into some threads in the bottom of the router. Wing nuts top/bottom gave me the adjustment I needed. It ended up still being a hassle to adjust but it didn't move around as much. The fence would normally straddle the cutter but I have it set back for this picture in order to see the setup better.

You get a slight ridge to one side of each joint if the cutter isn't perfectly aligned. I guess I had 1/32" ridges on some of my strips. I always put the ridge on the outboard side and didn't have much of a problem. I probably had more fairing to do later on. I agree with the theme of the thread though; work through the problem (this way or another way) until you feel comfortable with it.

Hope this helps,
Chip
