In the past, I have just sanded these buggers down flush with the rest of the glass. I've never had a problem with "staining" from precoating. Any patch over the affected area should vanish. In small cases, I'll even for go the patch. I know. That probably comprimises the strength of the hull, but I have yet to have a boat fall apart on me :-)
