Epoxy is not neccessary if you are going to glass over the stems anyway.
The stems will be completely encapsulated. If you use the Ted Moores method
you need epoxy, though, because the stems are not glassed.
I cringe at the thought of that, personally. I don't want my stems coming
apart with a cracked piece of ash.

I have tried PVA, epoxy and urethane for stems, and PVA seems fine, as long as
you glass over it.
