Yes, I did the lashing after the kerf cuts, but the bow was already pinched by the exterior form that Morris calls for, which is moved toward the bow or stern to get the amount of pinch you want. The gunwhales need to be in exactly the position you want before you complete the kerfs, otherwise, the ends won't meet with the right compound angles to be flush. There should be some closeups of the ends in the PDF file.
