: what do people use on sharp inside curves?

: as panels are stacked back to back( or is front to front best?), is the

: out than other??

: is the orbital lousier on sharp curve than a regular jigsaw?

for planing down to the line, right? I do not recall any tear out problems with the plane. Keep it sharp.

Good question, I may have engaged the fingers before the brain when typing the last message.

It is how I did my panels for the guillemot hull, I cut with a jig saw, staying about 1/4 inch away from the line (some tear out from the saw kept me out that far), then planed down to the line. The guillemot S&G does have a bit of a inside curve. I forget what I used there... I have a spoke shave, but I do not like it. It is a cheap one, and I never did get it to work well for me.

What confuses my memory is that in addition to a block plane, I also have a very small plane. I think it is called a thumb plane (a great tool, but watch out for slivers), by holding a plane at an angle, to reduce the plane effect you can plane the convex side of a curve. the smaller the plane (or spoke shave) the tighter the angle you can do.

In fact now that I think for a bit, I seem to recall using a small brass spoke shave I bought from Lee Valley.

By angle I do not mean as to create a bevel, but so that the blade is not running perpendicular to both stroke of the cut.

I think a regular spoke shave would suffice.

I do not like dust and noise, so I'd avoid the ROS. Also, I think it would not work well with out some sort of rounded pad on it.

hmm... not sure if I'm helping or not on this one. As they say, If you can not convince them, confuse them.

good luck

Myrl
