Dealing with unsolicited faxes

: Yes I do get that much.
: As of 2:00 pm today I've gotten 62. Herbal diet pills, free credit cards,
: credit repair, breast enlargement pills, penis enlargement pills,
: refinancing, get rich quick schemes, college degrees at home, & lots
: of other crap- not to mention porn site ads.
: The porn ads are the easiest to deal with, because they usually make it clear
: by their e-mail address or subject message what they are. Most of the
: other ones are obvious too, but some use an e-mail address along the lines
: of shippingdept@ whatever.com or info@, or some generic company name. Then
: they put in "regarding your order" or "payment
: recieved" or something along those lines to try & get me to open
: & read their junk.
: I usally just read the email addresses & skim over the suject. If I don't
: recognize either- I delete them without opening first.
: I do believe Vaclav sent the messages as he said he did. I must have deleted
: them without a second glance/thought.
: I set up a free account with hotmail last night. I'll use it until it gets
: spamed- then I'll just get a new one & abandon the old one.
: I also have a fax line, & I uasually get around 3 ads per week- from cell
: phone & beeper companies. I used to call them whenever I got one &
: tell them to take me off of thier list, but it would be immediatly
: replaced by THE SAME ADVERTISEMENT with a different company name. I gave
: up along time ago & just accept that I'm going to get unsolicited ads
: to some degree no matter what I do. What I think is pretty strange is that
: I can't even remember the last time I got junk mail.

Hi Fred,

I've been looking for an effective way of dealing with spam, but am yet to find anything other than filtering.

I have read about a way of dealing with faxes however.

Take a sheet of fax paper about 3 or 4 feet long, on this you write in very large letters with a felt tip pen, something like "don't send me anymore faxes".

This sheet is then fed into your fax machine and both ends are taped together to make a continous loop. You fax it back to the people who have been the problem, but you have to do it at night or when their office is unattended.

After you've done this a few times, and wasted a few rolls of their fax paper, the faxes should stop coming.

Does anyone know of a similar method for spammers?

Cheers,

Paul
