Neither -- I've brought small things out of the States for a number of years though. There has been a large cost savings on the epoxy and part of that is due to my location which is a long way from any large centre in Canada. You have to research each item, some things are cheaper here and some about the same cost. Steel fence posts and metal gates are also much cheaper in the States for example (like half after exchange, GST and PST). The past few years it has only been PST and GST at the border and I have no idea on how to estimate brokerage fees except take a reasonable figure and multiply by 10.
If it is something you have not brought in before, it is a good idea to call customs first to make sure there are no problems -- got stuck for three days with a seed drill once while they figured out if they would let me bring it in or if I would have to take another day and drive to a different crossing. Some things, like long box Toyota's are only available in the States and can be brought in but require adaptations (Canadian stickers etc) to be registered here.
good luck

: Don: It sounds like you either work for CCR or have a lot of experience with
: these issues. Is there really much cost savings? If properly declared you
: have to pay GST and PST at the border. What is your understanding of the
: brokerage fees? How do I estimate brokerage fees before placing an order?
