I think your braces look just as nice, and would have done mine that way except there were only strips of yellow cedar left by that point in the build. The Picturestage album has a shot of a couple of small forms that the strips were glued up on – plane curves with a shape that feels right against your leg. After trimming to fit the coaming, they were tacked on with 5-min. epoxy, then glassed. You might recall I broke one, so I added more glass. I think they ended up with 3 layers of 7 oz. unidirectional on the underside, and 3 layers of 5 oz. cloth on the topside.

The coaming is carbon covered with yellow cedar veneer made from leftovers. I'm not at all happy with the overall shape of the cutout(I guess I was rushing a bit at that point), but all the other details worked out well. Strips for the recess were run parallel to the centerline, which allowed a concave surface to be generated. The idea there was to lower the coaming, but it is not as deeply recessed as on your Cormorant. In back, the top of the coaming is level with the deck but the sides are essentially the same as a standard recess.
