: Like a dumb farm animal, looking up never occurred to me. I live & work
: in a commercial/industrial warehouse & I've got a 16'-18' twin T
: ceiling/roof. After reading Daren's post about the forklift, I realized
: I've got roughly 10,000 cubic feet of unused space- assuming 8' of
: headroom. Although it will probably be a bit awkward hoisting the entire
: strongback up whenever I need the space, I won't have to rush the building
: process- no matter how long it takes. What a massive relief- I thought I'd
: have to wait till this time again next year to get started.
: If it proves too heavy/awkward to hoist I may wind up building a shelf for
: it, & borrow my neighbor's (a bean bag factory) forklift whenever I
: need to move it.
Hey Fred,
I use two cheap hand-crank boat winches mounted to the wall (like you use to crank a boat onto the trailer) from which the rope runs up thru three pulleys (for each yak)attached to the rafters in my garage to hoist up two plastic kayaks. This method makes it so easy my wife can put them up or take them down. Just sit them on the floor, go around each end with the ropes, and crank 'em up.
I believe they'd hoist up my "soon to be started" Guillemot L with the strongback inside with no problem.
I also put a couple of "safety" straps on the yaks when they're hoisted up just to be on the safe side. I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law!
Anyway, something to think about. Happy Building.
Charles.
