In Response To: Raka Shipment (grant)

Hi Grant;

I intended to mention about the glass, but I guess I forgot. I did not order my glass from Raka - only the epoxy and pumps. Noah's is 20 minutes from my house, and their glass was less expensive than Raka's to begin with. I used the 6 oz, and bought enough to qualify for the 10% discount, so I have enough left over to cover a canoe, eventually. I also asked for a couple yards of the 4 oz to experiment with, and they just threw that in - no charge.

I can't remember how long the Raka order took to get here, but it wasn't long - only a few days. I think this stuff has to travel by ground transport.

I am building an Endeavour. Its close to finished. I just need to make hatch lips, attach hull & deck & install bulkheads, which are already stripped & glassed. Then details like end toggles, & decklines. But I haven't done a thing for about 6 weeks. I need to bring it inside the house to do any more epoxy work, so I'm waiting until after the holidays to make the mess.

Ken

: Thanks for the details Ken. I was stung by a $35 brokerage fee on a $50
: dollar item. Based on your experience the brokerage fee appears to be a
: fixed cost regardless of order size. I will sharpen my pencil and have a
: look at Raka again. When you said you bought all of your goodies from Raka
: this included epoxy, glass, fillers, squeegees etc?

: I am in the Okanagan Valley about 1 hour from the border. To account for
: fuel, travel time and other items the cost savings by delivering to the US
: side whould have to be significant to make it worthwhile.

: How long did it take for the order to arrive?

: What are you building?
