Glad to hear it worked out without major damage. But I'm unclear on your building sequence. Did you build the lip before installing magnets into the lid? If so, how did you make sure the lid magnets were in the exact correct position?

I'm not criticizing. Hatch lips are next on my To-Do list, so when I saw your post, I thought I'd better make sure this doesn't happen to me. But as I thought through my intended method (entirely borrowed from others BTW), I realized it can't happen. It would be impossible to accidentally reverse the polarity, in the sequence I'm using.

I've installed magnets in my hatch lids, but haven't yet built the lips (it got cold in the garage, and I'm waiting until the new year before making a mess of the basement). For the next step, with hatch lids in place, I'll place the lip magnets over the lid magnets and lay glass for the lip. Since the magnets will be matched up before glassing, it would be impossible to get the polarity reversed. And getting the magnets to line up properly is a no-brainer this way.

: Tried the hatch this morning and one side sorta floats, middle magnet is
: right, but the ones on each end on that side are backwards, rats. The cat
: must have swapped the magnets when I was mixing the epoxy and my back was
: turned.

: How to fix? Could cut off the little ear on the base and putty up another,
: but it looks so good finished.

: I got my trusty sortering iron and heated the magnet in the hatch cover until
: the hatch was very warm on the backside. Was able to pop the magnet out
: with a small sharp screwdriver. Whew, just a reglue and we are back on
: schedule.
