Hello Ken,

Your sequence sounds good to me. The force is so strong that I figured it would squeeze all the epoxy out of the glueup, that is why I decided to do one at a time. From what I have learned now, I would install them all one way in the lip, either north or south pole up, then it would be easy to match in the hatch.

This was my sequence. I placed a short piece of foam on the edge of the hatch to gauge the placement of the magnet from the edge. I just scribed with the drill the mark on the hatch where I wanted to place the magnet. Then when I taped the hatch to the deck and covered with clear shelf paper I could see the scribed circle, I then placed the 4 oz glass about 1" square. Wet out the glass (it was taped down at the waste end with masking tape), placed the magnet, then made the fillet over the foam on both sides. Let that get tacky then made the CF/Glass layup.

When it was cured, popped the hatch off and drilled the previous marks. I placed the magnets on the lip so I could just pull them off and flip to place in the hatch, but I must have got backwards for one side with the other, not sure what happened there. I had a 50/50 chance of getting it right anyway, that explains why some worked and some didn't.

On not using two magnets, I found that the pull is not strong enough with 1/2" magnets and I didn't want to make a bigger intrusion into my hatch opening.
